On May 1, 2025, during the 5th APEC Ocean-Related Ministerial Meeting in Busan, Republic of Korea, Minister Kang Do-Hyung and his counterparts reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation for sustainable ocean governance. Under the theme «Navigating our Blue Future – Connection, Innovation, and Prosperity,» ministers emphasized the urgency of addressing marine pollution, enhancing disaster resilience, and promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

The meeting called for the development of the APEC Ocean Resilience Enhancement Roadmap, urged the timely implementation of the APEC Roadmap on Marine Debris, and highlighted the need for innovative, science-based approaches to tackle environmental and food security challenges. Ministers also stressed the importance of combating IUU fishing, supporting small-scale fisheries, and fostering public-private partnerships to ensure inclusive growth and healthy marine ecosystems.
