On May 29, 2025, Clean Energy Australia released its 2025 Annual Report and Quarterly Investment Report, confirming that 2024 marked the largest single year of clean energy investment in the country’s history, totaling $12.7 billion. Of that, $9 billion went to large-scale renewable generation—an increase of 500% over 2023 and the highest figure since 2018.
The reports show $5.9 billion was invested in onshore wind, with 8.7 GW / 23.3 GWh of large-scale battery storage under construction. Despite a slight drop in new capacity additions (5.2 GW versus 5.9 GW in 2023), momentum continues with strong energy storage investment in Q1 2025—six projects totaling 1,510 MW / 5,016 MWh reached financial close.
Australia now has 82 renewable generation projects and 69 energy storage projects either committed or under construction, collectively representing over 25 GW of capacity. While Q1 2025 showed slower financial commitments for generation, the Clean Energy Council anticipates an upward trend in investment driven by policy stability, the Capacity Investment Scheme, and a robust development pipeline.
