In January 2025, India witnessed a significant 17% increase in fertilizer sales compared to the same month last year. This growth is driven by rising agricultural demand and government initiatives supporting farmers.
Additionally, fertilizer imports doubled, reaching 1.2 million tons, reflecting efforts to ensure sufficient supply for the upcoming planting season.
The surge in imports is also attributed to the need to compensate for limited domestic production and a strategic diversification of international suppliers to secure essential agricultural inputs. These measures aim to strengthen the country’s food security and support millions of farmers across India.
