Indonesia has announced plans to fully activate its national carbon market by the end of June 2026, unlocking new opportunities for climate financing and sustainable economic growth. The initiative, supported by President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, is anchored in Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025, described as a “game changer” for establishing a robust legal framework for emissions trading and carbon credit instruments, while ensuring transparency and preventing double counting.
By integrating multiple registries into a single national platform aligned with international standards, Indonesia aims to strengthen investor confidence and connect with global markets. With strong global demand for nature-based carbon credits, the country’s vast forests, mangroves, and marine ecosystems position it as a key supplier. Officials expect the market to generate significant funding for forest conservation, environmental protection, energy transition efforts, and long-term climate commitments.
