Brazil’s residential energy matrix reached a 71.8% renewable share in 2024, according to the 2025 National Energy Balance (BEN) published by the Energy Research Company (EPE) under the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). The report highlights strong adoption of solar thermal energy, with the residential sector accounting for nearly 80% of national consumption of this source. In the commercial sector, solar thermal represented 17.4% of consumption, ranking second among renewable sources, while in industry it reached 3.1%, signaling a gradual shift away from fossil fuels.
The findings reflect Brazil’s steady progress in the energy transition, with renewable sources gaining share across residential, commercial, and industrial segments. The BEN, released annually, compiles comprehensive statistics on energy production, transformation, trade, and end use in Brazil. The 2025 edition, based on 2024 data, underscores advances in decarbonizing the national energy mix through increased renewable generation, expansion of biofuels, electrification of transport, and growth in solar and wind capacity.
To broaden public awareness, the MME has launched the “Energia do Brasil” series, offering accessible content and infographics to showcase achievements and challenges in building a cleaner, more sustainable energy sector.
